Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, said Tuesday that she has tested positive for carbon dioxide again and will not accompany President Biden to Europe for meetings on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

After serving as White House press secretary for more than a year, Jen Psaki will leave the Biden administration for MSNBC, where she will serve as a host and on-air expert. The departure is expected this spring.

Since the start of the Biden presidency, Psaki has held near-daily briefings, and has generally been praised for her transparency. She initially said that she would stay at her position for a year, but a number of crises have extended her tenure.

The news outlet Puck had previously reported that Psaki was in talks with both CNN and MSNBC, and there was even speculation that she might replace Rachel Maddow, who is stepping back from nightly hosting duties.

The cable news landscape has alumni of high-level Washington politics. Some of the network's own employees criticized the hiring of Mick Mulvaney, a former White House chief of staff. The former top aide to Vice President Kamala Harris will host her own show on MSNBC in May.
