  • Multiple reports show that Russia's troops are low-spirited.

A lawyer representing a group of Russian national guardsmen refused to join the invasion of Ukraine said that hundreds of other soldiers and guardsmen had been in touch with him looking for help to avoid the war.

According to the Financial Times, a lot of people don't want to go and fight, and that around 1,000 people had been in touch with him since his case representing the guardsmen was made public.

Twelve national guardsmen were fired for not going to Ukraine, he said.

They were members of a force that was separate from the military. They argued that they should not be sent to Ukraine.

The men thought that going abroad with an armed group would be against the law. They do not have a passport.

They filed a wrongful dismissal suit against the government.

Three of the 12 guardsmen proceeded with the lawsuit, according to Benyash. Benyash said that the other nine withdrew their claims because they were threatened.

The reports come as Ukrainian and Western officials describe the state of Russian troops. On Thursday, the head of the UK's GCHQ intelligence service said Russian soldiers were not complying with orders, sabotaging their own equipment, and accidentally shooting down their own aircraft.
