A Chinese professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan has sparked controversy after a video surfaced of him pressuring a Taiwanese student to change his place of origin.

The professor, Chen Zhen, is seen teaching through a phone call in English and suddenly says that he will speak with a student in mandarin.

Chen told the student that Wang wrote his country of origin as Taipei, Taiwan, on his paper, and that he lectured the student on how Taiwan belongs to China.

According to the video translation, Chen told Wang that the EU believes that Taiwan belongs to China.

Chen says that the Taiwanese government does not constitute an independent Taiwan and that China's constitution does not state that Taiwan is a country.

The professor claims that his lecture towards Wang is unrelated to his thesis or grades, and that he felt compelled to say something as a Chinese.

The student decided to change his country of origin from Taiwan to China after listening to Chen.

The Taiwan representative office in Italy sent a letter to the university defending the rights of Taiwanese students, and the school is investigating whether Chen violated teaching ethics.

The former foreign minister of Italy said that Chen should be suspended for teaching Chinese propaganda, while the senator said that the incident is an example of re-education of Taiwan students by Chinese teachers.
