Someone should have asked Greg Gumbel for his thoughts in sports broadcasters sooner.

It appears that this man has been simmering with hot takes for years, so it's time for a Greg Gumbel day on First Take. He recently appeared on Jimmy Traina's SI Media Podcast and let it fly about how he feels about the recent contracts that NFL broadcasters have received.

I will tell you that it has gotten crazy. I don't need to be jealous of it. I have always been appreciative of what I have been able to do and I have been treated nicely. I don't think that applies to me. I believe the only thing a broadcasters can do is chase people away.

They do the best game of the week, which is why they have an advantage over Al Michaels and others.

The spiciest revelation from this is when he said that the only power broadcasters have over a sporting event is to make people not want to watch it.

I know this for a fact, but there are at least three or four of them. I don't think someone is tuning in just to hear someone call a football game.

There were shots fired.

We didn't get to hear many of Gumbel's opinions because he was in the host chair. It must have been bubbling inside of him, because they burst out when he talked to Traina. There are people that can cause him to stop playing a game. I want to know who he feels that way about. I wonder who Gumbel was talking about when he said that certain broadcasters will make him not watch a game.

If these are the hot takes he has about his industry, he needs to have more about the actual. What do you think about the man? Is Rodgers a disappointment with only one Super Bowl appearance? Is boxing and baseball dead?

Stephen A. Smith is the first take against the world. Greg Gumbel Day isn't going to be the splashy match up that they're looking for, but they should give it a try during the summer. His quotes from Traina have gone viral. Imagine if there was a clip of him on First Take with a wild take like, "Steph Curry is the most overrated player in the history of the NBA."

It is time to take action. Let's get some petitions going and bombard the network with emails. This is a cause that needs to be championed. Gumbel needs to be on the air, we need his takes delivered in the same tone that he uses at the Men's NCAA Tournament desk.

If he only has opinions about sports broadcasters, make sure his first appearance is during the summer.
