The veteran reporter said that many of the stories he has covered here and the people he has met on assignments have moved him.

Veteran reporter and anchor Craig Melvin is leaving MSNBC. The last live broadcast of his late-morning show was emotional.

This nearly decade-long stretch of hosting a cable news program has been a tremendous honor, and I am very thankful for the opportunity to really have had a front-row seat to so much history. Tumultuous campaigns, elections, natural disasters, far too many mass shootings and of course a global pandemic were all said by Melvin.

Many of the stories I've covered here and the people I've met on assignments have moved me. He continued, "Some days sad, angry, confused, but always hopeful."

I've tried to cover the news fairly and keep my opinion out of it. I'm very proud of the fact that we tried to traffic in facts and truth and let you make up your mind. We have gone out of our way to highlight the bigger picture. We tried to introduce you to ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

The New York-based broadcaster attended a college in South Carolina. He began hosting Today's 3rd Hour in October. At the end of the year, the contract of Melvin, the company's CEO, is said to be up.

He wrote a book about learning to be a son and a father.

My dad was a mystery to me for most of my life. He previously told Yahoo that he didn't know where he stood with him for a long time. I was curious about my dad and family. I think it helped develop an understanding of the journalist. I try not to.

The anchor was emotional on his cable show on Thursday as he thanked his family and colleagues.

I would like to thank you for allowing me into your homes, businesses, and vehicles for an hour every day. We need it more than we have. Thank you.

He will now focus on Today and Dateline NBC. The network will have a rotating lineup of anchors.
