The requirement to wear a face mask when flying has been dropped by SWISS.
SWISS will no longer require masks to be worn on flights as of April 1, 2022. The Swiss Federal Council no longer requires face masks to be worn on public transportation as of the same date.
Face masks will need to be worn on flights where they are required by the destination country. SWISS passengers will be advised of the mask-wearing provisions in advance of their flights.
Some airlines are lifting face mask requirements. We've seen this from British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, and we've also seen that KLM will no longer enforce face mask policies. SWISS is the first airline to have such a policy.
The federal transportation mask mandate in the United States is valid through April 18, 2022, so you can expect masks to be required on flights to the United States.
I'm currently on a trip to Italy and France, and I'm going to fly SWISS from Geneva to Frankfurt. It will be my first mask-optional flight in two years, assuming masks don't need to be worn on this flight. If Germany doesn't mandate that all flights to the country require masks, that's the case. I'm not sure.
I am in shock at the idea of boarding a flight without a mask. When masks were optional in many indoor settings last spring, I felt naked in public.

SWISS is lifting its mask requirement for passengers as of April 1st in order to coincide with the Swiss government lifting the transportation mask mandate. This is complicated in the short term due to the rules at the destination country that still require masks on some flights.
I believe that mask-optional flights will become the norm rather than the exception by late spring or early summer, with the exception of Asia. There is still some novelty to this.
