A number of long-requested features and plenty that you didn't know you needed were included in a major update to the Meet app. There is a long list here, but the main additions are likely in-meeting reactions to give immediate updates to the Meet companion mode, as well as a new picture-in-picture mode so you.

Another highlight of the announcement is security. The client-side encryption in Meet is still in the early stages. With this, users have full control over the keys and identity providers can't access them. The option end-to-end encryption will be introduced later this year. All Meet data is secured in transit.

In a press briefing ahead of today, Dave Citron, the director of product management for Google Meet and Voice, said that human connection is crucial.

collaboration equity is the ability to contribute to meetings regardless of location, role, experience level, language and device preference. Companion mode was launched earlier this year and allows users to join a video meeting on a second screen. The update will make those in physical space have the same experience as those who are working remotely.

Automatic noise cancellation on Meet-enabled hardware is now available to all users, and picture-in-picture mode will be added next month.

Most companies will probably use the ability to stream to YouTube later this year, when it will be available.
