In an audio excerpt from the event published by Variety, the 57-year-old comic can be heard asking the audience how was their weekend, which immediately drew laughter.
The comic said he will talk about it at some point and promised it will be serious and funny.
An audience member shouted "F*ck Will Smith!" but Rock ignored it and continued with his set.
I don't have a lot of information about what happened, so I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I still don't know what happened. I will talk about that at some point. Rock said at the start of his set that it would be serious and funny.
While presenting an award at Sunday's Oscar ceremony, Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's haircut, quipping that she looked ready for a role. Smith slapped Rock in the face after the joke. International broadcasts picked up on the fact that Rock said Smith smacked the s**t of him. Smith could face suspension, expulsion or some other form of sanction from the Academy for violating its code of conduct.
