Executives from several companies will testify about high gas prices on April 6 at 10:30 a.m., according to Diana DeGette.

Gouged at the Gas Station: Big Oil and America's Pain at the Pump is the title of the House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing.

"We want to know what’s causing these record-high prices and what needs to be done to bring them down immediately.”

— Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) in a statement.

The Natural Resources Committee canceled a hearing planned for April 5 because three executives from EOG Resources,Devon Energy Corporation and Occidental Petroleum declined to participate.

The Republican view: We caught up with Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith, who was the top Republican on the subcommittee.

"We'll have to look. It could be a little bit but I don't know that you'd call it gouging. It could be: we're anticipating hard times and we're going to put on a little fat before we go back into hard times again. And part of that anticipation of hard times is all these regulations and rules that they see coming."

— Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.)

Democrats are still trying to find a solution to high prices, but they are running into opposition from Republicans and a familiar face: Sen. Joe Manchin.

The end of fossil fuel tax breaks for companies is being proposed by Democratic Reps. Sean Casten (Ill.) and Earl Blumenauer (Ore.). A bill is being led by Sen. Whitehouse and Ro Khanna that calls for taxingwindfall profits by the companies. They will hold a press conference at 1 p.m.

Manchin was asked about taking away fossil fuel tax credits. He said that he wanted to give more credits to renewable sources and help find the energy of the future.
