A Superior Court judge on Wednesday found conspiracy theorist andInfowars host Alex Jones in contempt of court and imposed a fine of up to $50,000 a day for violating her orders that he submit to questioning.

Jones failed to comply with repeated orders to appear for a deposition in Austin, Texas, where the Internet broadcasting company is located, last week. The families of the children killed in the 2012 school shooting in the town of Newtown have been trying for years to question him in connection with their suit filed in response to his broadcast assertions that shootings were a hoax.

Jones said he couldn't sit for the deposition because of his health condition. Bellis said the medical explanation by two Jones physicians was unconvincing. An attorney for the Sandy Hook victims said Jones was broadcasting during the times the depositions had been scheduled and told his audience his condition was caused by a sinus obstruction.

If Jones sits for two days of deposition in Connecticut, Bellis said he can have her contempt order removed. She ordered him to be paid as much as $50,000 a day until the depositions take place. She said she is ready to impose additional sanctions if he fails to show up.
