Barcelona set a world record for attendance for a women's match with over 90 thousand fans at Camp Nou.

In 1999, 90,185 people watched the World Cup final between the United States and China at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, which was the previous record crowd for a women's game.

The Azteca Stadium was the site of the 1971 World Cup final, and some estimates suggest that over 100,000 people attended.

The previous high in club football was set when Atleti hosted Barcelona in a league game in 2019.

The game was moved from the training ground to accommodate the bigger demand for tickets.

The first time the European champion played a game at the stadium was with fans. The win over Espanyol was played behind closed doors because of the coronaviruses. Barcelona went through to the semifinals on the back of a win on Wednesday.

The team's success on the pitch has led to increased interest in the team.

They have already won the Spanish Supercopa this season and have a third successive league title. They have won all 25 of their matches in the division and have scored 138 goals.

The spotlight on the team has been increased by individual recognition for captain Alexia Putellas. The captain of the club won the Ballon d'Or at the end of last year and followed it up with The Best in January.

The game can be the start of a new era according to Putellas. I didn't think it was possible because I just saw men, but I think it can open many doors.

I knew I could play football, but it wasn't easy to do on this scale. This match can mark a before and after because Barcelona are the biggest club in the world and they have a voice.
