Hunter Biden could be indicted by the U.S. government following an investigation into his foreign business dealings, according to a top legal analyst at CNN.

Elie Honig said on the network that the investigation was very serious and that federal prosecutors in Delaware were doing exactly what they would expect.

Honig said it appears the investigation into Biden's business overseas are gaining steam.

Biden's history of drug use and relationships in the international business world have been the subject of ridicule by Republicans and critics of his father.

During the 2020 presidential campaign, President Trump relentlessly attacked Joe Biden over his son's struggles with addiction and what he has alleged to be corrupt overseas business affairs. During a call with the president of Ukraine, Trump asked the leader to help him dig up dirt on Hunter Biden, who had done business in the country with a corrupt oil and gas company.

On Tuesday, Trump asked Putin to release any incriminating information the Russian government may have on Biden. The international community has condemned Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Why did the wife of the mayor of Moscow give the Bidens $3.5 million dollars? I think Putin knows the answer to that. I think he should let it go.

Independent fact-checking has shot down some of the claims of corruption against the Bidens. The Washington Post published a 3,000-word investigative report about Hunter Biden's business dealings in China.

The Justice Department is looking into allegations of illegal lobbying against a consulting firm that Hunter Biden once sat on the board of.

Honig said there was a chance the Department of Justice would prosecute the son.
