Facebook has lost previous campaigns to take down the newer, short-form video app, but it looks like it is still jealous of TikTok.

Meta, the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg, was so jealous of TikTok's success with younger audiences that it started paying one of the United States' largest consulting firms to wage a media war on the competition.

TikTok is a foreign owned app that is #1 in sharing data that young teens are using, and it is the real threat, even though Meta is the current punching bag.

Edit It

Targeted Victory coordinated letters to the editor across the country to complain about TikTok and its owner, a Chinese company called ByteDance. According to WaPo, staffers at the firm tried to convince reporters to cover TikTok with a negative angle while sticking to the shadows.

One of the firm's staffers wrote in an email that it would be a bonus point to distract readers from legislation trying to reform and regulate big tech and social media companies.

Losing Battle

Forbes reported earlier this year that Facebook knows it is losing. It's almost certain that it won't bring back the millions of users who switched to TikTok.

The press campaigns were very bold. The slap a Teacher TikTok challenge was reported a few months ago. It was part of Targeted Victory's plan and there was no trend. The trend was a hoax back in October of 2021.

A Meta spokesman told WaPo that they believe all platforms should face a level of scrutiny consistent with their growing success.

Trends come and go in the tech world. It seems that Facebook can't keep up.
