HBO reveals release date for 'House of the Dragon' and some new characters

House of the Dragon is a Game ofThrones spinoff that will premiere on August 21.

The House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game ofThrones and explores the history of the Targaryen civil war. The show promises a new cast of schemers, political intrigue, and dragons.

Who will you meet in House of the Dragon? Some of the new faces we will be seeing in our return journey to Westeros are below.

King Viserys Targaryen

Viserys Targaryen was the first of his names. He is the fifth king of the Targaryen dynasty. He wants to uphold his family's legacy and foster a sense of peace and prosperity in the kingdom. He is an all-around good guy, but we have seen what can happen to good guys before.

Princess Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon

Rhaenyra Targaryen and her uncle Daemon are likely to be involved in a power play. Rhaenyra is the oldest daughter of King Viserys, and Daemon is his brother. They are both fierce dragonriders, so we will see some dragon action early on.

Lord Corlys Velaryon and Princess Rhaenys

House Velaryon is a house we didn't meet in Game of Throne. The Targaryens are the most powerful house in the series. They are rich and can marry into the royal family because of their Valyrian heritage. Lord Corlys Velaryon and his wife Rhaenys Targaryen are shown above. Lord Corlys is known as Sea Snake, while Rhaenys is known as The Queen Who Never Was. She was passed up as heir to the throne by the Great Council.

The Hightowers

Queen Alicent and her father Otto are important players in the battles to come. Viserys has two wives, Alicent and Otto. They fight with intelligence and political knowledge.

Ser Criston Cole

Ser Criston Cole is a skilled fighter without a title or a title to his name. He will become a knight of the Kingsguard because of his sword gift.

Mysaria

Mysaria, also known as Lady Misery of the White Worm, was Prince Daemon's most trusted ally.
