Manchester United informally gathered information about the compensation figure that Ajax would be expecting after his interview for their permanent managerial position.

Sky Sports News understands that a process of due diligence has been followed by United after they held official talks with him.

The formal discussion was granted permission by Ajax and they did not impede the process.

Sources close to Ten Hag and the Dutch club have suggested that dialogue has taken place over the financial element as well as how to handle a possible announcement - should the process progress that way - in terms of timing and presentation, given that Ajax are in a tight title race.

Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has warned Erik ten Hag he should choose a club focused on football rather than a 'commercial' one like United

No formal inquiry has been put forward in that regard. They have made it clear that they don't have a preferred candidate yet to take charge next season, and are just following a rigorous process to find the right man.

All candidates will have their compensation figures and ease of appointment assessed. The club doesn't think it's fair to portray Ten Hag as the front runner for the position when they're still working on their list.

Julen Lopetegui seemingly ruled himself out of contention by saying: "I am where I want to be." Continue on the bench for Sevilla? I have no doubt.

Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan says that there is a danger that Manchester United may be too late for Erik ten Hag and that United need to speed the process up.

According to sources, Ten Hag is the easiest to get as he is expected to leave and have been smooth to negotiate with.

Paris Saint-Germain will part company with Pochettino on their terms and not that of another club.

If he was offered and accepted another job, they would have to fork out between 15 million and 20 million dollars to sack the Argentine and his staff.

The preferred options for the job have been considered for a long time, and have not been discouraged by United.

He is due to lead Spain at the World Cup, which complicates the interest in him.

Ben Ransom reports that talks between Manchester United and current Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag 'went very well' as the club looks to appoint their next manager.
