  • China is seeing a new surge in cases.

The city of China ordered all indoor pets to be killed in one neighborhood.

The state-run China News Service reported that the Anci district of Langfang city in northern China ordered the complete slaughter of indoor animals.

The work stopped at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the China News Service. It's not clear how many animals were killed.

The risk of pets spreading the disease to people was low according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since the start of the Pandemic, China has been aggressively pursuing a zero-COVID strategy.

Half of the city of 26 million people went into a state of emergency earlier this week after thousands of new cases were recorded in the major city. The other half is locked down.

In the last few weeks, hundreds of new daily COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the province of Langfang.
