The Italian newspaper reported on Tuesday that Italy had seized a $670,000 bulletproof limousine from a Russian billionaire.

According to media reports, a car belonging to Alisher Usmanov, a mining and telecoms tycoon, was seized by authorities in Sardinia, an Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Italian tax police confirmed to The Times that the car was one of the assets that have been seized. According to a local Italian newspaper, authorities have seized his real estate complex in the Gulf of Pevero and six of his corporate vehicles. All of his assets in Sardinia have been seized.

The authorities in Sardinia and representatives for Usmanov did not reply to questions about the reported seizures.

The five-tonne Maybach is worth around $600,000 and is fitted with armor plating and 10 centimeter-thick windows that can be used for machine-gun attacks. Mercedes has said that it can weather two grenades exploding at the same time.

Mercedes didn't respond to Insider's request for comment on the vehicle's details.

According to an EU Council report, the European Union imposed sanctions on February 28 for having close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and being one of his favorites.

The billionaire, who has been targeted by both the UK and the US, has transferred some of his assets into trusts, including two mansions in the UK, according to The Guardian.

According to the billionaires index, Usmanov is the fifth-richest person in Russia with a net worth of $18.7 billion.
