45 current and former college athletes, including 19 football players, will try out for the company on Wednesday as part of WrestleMania Week in the Dallas area.
The three-day tryout will include evaluations for performance and promotion as well as interviews and technical sessions in the ring. The tryout is designed to identify and sign younger athletes for the development program. The 53 people at this week's tryout are all 25 or younger. Eight participants did not compete collegiately, but they stood out in their respective disciplines.
There are seven basketball players, four women, three men, and a soccer player on the list. College bowl games, NCAA championship in wrestling, and several combine events were among the things that the World Wrestling Entertainment scouting for.
The average age of male participants is 23.4, while the average age of female participants is 22.8.
The long-term goal is to create a pathway in which the talent identification process is streamlined and then the talent development processes is accelerated.
The football group includes former starters such as Anthony McKinney, Dallas Hobbs, Abule Abadi-Fitzgerald, San Diego State offensive linemen and Dominic Gudino. Evidence Njoku is the younger brother of David Njoku, a Cleveland Browns tight end.
The basketball contingent includes the son of a former NBA first-round draft pick.
Other participants include Lexie Amrhein, a national champion tumbler at Baylor; former George Washington volleyball player and four-time All-American Daniel McArthur; and Zola Golden, a former Texas relay national champion. The former LSU soccer player turned down a pro opportunity.
The second NIL class will be announced in June and current college athletes will be considered. Gable Steveson, an NCAA and Olympic champion, was in the first NIL class.
The AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas is where the event will be held.
