Moon Knight is the sixth episode of a six episode adventure on Disney Plus and brings a long-gestating comic character to the screen for the first time. We were promised a darker, edgier series for the superhero, but early reactions to the show have been mixed.
Moon Knight is the lowest scoring Disney Plus Marvel TV offering out of all the shows that they just port over. We have seen how it stacks up to the others on Rotten Tomatoes in the last year or two.
It's the lowest by 5%, but an 81% is still solid, and we're not seeing anything on the level of a drop between The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian. I have heard that the first episode is better than the ones that follow it, but Moon Knight hasn't shown critics all six episodes yet.
Moon Knight has a 90% audience score, which is very solid, and more on par with the other series listed above. I don't always trust the critics when it comes to the series they give, as they gave my favorite season of the first season of the Punisher, which I thought was my favorite season of a TV show the year it aired, a 67%.
I don't know if Moon Knight is meant to be a one-off mini-series, a season 2, or a movie. We have seen all of the options work out. Disney Plus doesn't share how well its series do, so we have to rely on third party metrics to measure demand. Moon Knight is a more obscure character than some of the others who have gotten their own series, and has no character like all the other series. It has a movie star in the lead role, so that's something.
The low scoring of the MCU series is pretty good, and echoes how the movies usually go as well. At least, that's something, as evidenced by the consistency that Marvel is showing. I will be checking out the pilot later today.
