According to a report in The Athletic, the National Football League is working on a subscription streaming service for mobile devices. The league is said to have briefed teams on the project at its annual meeting of owners in Palm Beach, Florida. The Athletic says that presentations included slides with a $5-a-month price point.
The new service would replace the previous solution for distributing in-market games to phones and tablets. The partnership between the NFL and Yahoo to show live games ended last year as the carrier spun off its content businesses. In the year of 2017, the mobile exclusiveness of the company was lost.
Many fans outside of the US are able to watch the game on their mobile and other devices. The rights to every NFL game in Canada and Japan are owned by the streaming service. Game Pass is a streaming service for international subscribers.
The report doesn't say when the service might launch. The NFL will need to find a solution for mobile streaming before the season starts in September.
