Russ turns question on reporter (1:29)

A reporter asks a question about the Lakers being the 11th seed in the Western Conference and Russell asks the same question. The first part of the story is over.

12:33 AM ET

For the first time since the first week of the regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers find themselves on the outside of the play-in tournament looking in after Tuesday night's 128-110 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.

The Lakers were without their two best players, but they still trailed by as many as 37 points as Luka Doncic recorded a 30-point triple-double through the first three quarters.

The Lakers did not execute well enough and played with a poor performance across the board. Coaches, players, everybody.

L.A. is currently 11th in the Western Conference. The Lakers and Spurs have the same record, but the Spurs have a better record.

Looking ahead to the final stretch, the Lakers are 4-10) against their six remaining opponents. The Spurs are 5-11 against their remaining opponents. The Nuggets are in the Western Conference. Damian Lillard will be out of the lineup for the rest of the season.

James and Davis will be reexamined on Thursday to determine their availability for the game against Utah. According to sources, Davis is targeting a return by Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Lakers have been disappointing this season and Tuesday was no different. The second-most points allowed in a first half in franchise history were allowed in the first half, which was the second-most points allowed in a first half, narrowly avoiding the record set when the Boston Celtics hung 83 on them in the first half.

The Lakers had the worst points differential in the shot-clock era, minus-54, over a two-half span on Sunday and Tuesday.

When asked if falling out of the play-in ups the Lakers' urgency, Vogel said that the results are the main thing. That is the only place that we will focus on.

Russell Westbrook had 25 points, eight boards and six assists, but he was also part of the L.A. team that was outscored by 25 points in the 32 minutes he was on the floor.

When asked what changes would be made in L.A. now that it has to fight to get back into the play-in tournament, he said nothing. Nothing.

After the reporter asked why nothing has changed, Westbrook got up from his seat at the interview table and asked what should change.

The reporter suggested that winning would be an answer, and the reporter asked if that was okay. You have an answer to winning? You have an answer to winning?

As the exchange continued for a few more moments, he noticed a video camera pointed in his direction and changed his tone, giving a half-hug to the reporter before leaving the room.

He told them to make sure to record it.

The Lakers have a 4-13 record since the All-Star break, which is the second lowest win percentage in franchise history.

We got our butt whooped. Stanley Johnson said that they kicked our ass. The whole game was 30 points. I am not sure how you want to put it. We have to be better than that.
