During his remarks at a recent rally, David Perdue made comments that were said to be aimed at Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

Perdue was endorsed by Trump at a rally in Georgia on Saturday. Perdue promised to make sure those responsible for the fraud in 2020 go to jail if he wins the governor's race, a statement that elicited applause from the crowd, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Perdue gave them a thumbs-up after supporters started chanting "lock him up", according to video captured by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Perdue smiled at the crowd.

The former senator seems to be trying to walk back his reaction, saying that he misinterpreted the crowd's chant.

Perdue thought they were saying "lock them up", according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

I said in my speech that the people responsible for the malfeasance should be investigated and brought to justice. I said that. I didn't understand what they were saying. He said that he was holding the governor accountable.

The Hill reached out to Kemp.

There was no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would have changed the outcome of the 2020 presidential election according to William Barr.

Perdue and Kemp are competing for the GOP nomination in Georgia. The winner will face the only Democrat running for the nomination.

Kemp had an 11 point lead over Perdue according to a Fox News poll.

Trump hoped to remove Kemp from his position in the Peach State after endorsing Perdue. The governor was frustrated by Trump when he didn't support the president's efforts to overturn the results of the election.
