Currency has always been an artistic form. It is used to highlight their culture, significant historical figures, and important milestones. While many countries have found a lucrative revenue stream through pop culture-inspired collectible coins, no one does it quite like New Zealand.

I don't know why the New Zealand Mint has been serving me up ads on the photo sharing site, but I have no complaints. You can find an effigy of Jabba the Hutt on a $2,900 gold coin. The Disneyland gift shops don't get that flashy.

New Zealand residents often say to a bank teller, "Gimme five Corellian light freighters for a Star Destroyer" when they need pocket change. It's almost certain that the Millennium Falcon-shaped coin won't fit into the coin slot of a vending machine, but you won't have a chance to find out anyways.

The detail on the front is great, but the profile image of the Queen of England on the back is disappointing. Couldn't they have put her image in the cockpit?

I think we all agree that the most memorable scene in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings was that of Samwise Gamgee manspreading while on an Elven boat. You can keep a recreation of this image in your pocket or inside a wooden themed box because it was prominently featured on every poster for the movie. Could they not add a golden finish to the outer ring of this coin? Really?

This tribute to The Matrix and Neo is very similar to the original movie. The product shots make the bullets that Neo is stopping in the air look like a random pattern of white dots, but they are actually unprinted areas on the coin's packaging. It looks a lot cooler in person.

Do you really want to see a frog-eating, smuggler-imprisoning, space slug gangster staring back at you from the front, if you're admiring your investment in a $2,900 collectible gold coin? The New Zealand Mint is betting that there are at least 500 Star Wars fans out there who would love to add this to their collection. Do you see the look of the place? You can expect your partner to look the same when you reveal what you spent.

It may be unpopular, but I will go out on a limb and say that every country on Earth needs to offer at least one piece of circulation currency featuring Cesar Romero's Joker from the 1960s live-action film. Only New Zealand has been brave enough to take my advice, and only on this silver collectible coin with a limited run of 1,966 pieces. It's a shame, but not as big of a shame as not giving the etched image of Queen Elizabeth II on the back.

This is how you convince Star Wars fans to spend over $2,500 on a collectible that isn't an action figure with a rocket launcher. A $2,900 one-ounce gold coin that looks like the Death Star is not for everyone. Who wouldn't want to put all of these in a bank? Anyone with fiscal responsibilities like rent, insurance, and taxes is right.

It is a tale that has been around for a long time. Someone with $800 in disposable income is looking for the best way to invest their windfall, and in lieu of stocks, bonds, or imaginary digital currency, why not spend the whole kit-and-kaboodle on a quarter-ounce gold coin featuring the engraved image on the front of a The coin isn't sold out yet, despite being introduced last year, and it is hard to believe.
