Elisabeth Moss, with short brown hair, stares at the ceiling in a scene from Shining Girls.

It's difficult to track serial killers, but what if the fiend you're looking for has supernatural powers? What if they put you on their list of targets? The new series from Apple TV+ looks like it will be very twisted and frightening.

Shining Girls is based on The Shining Girls, an award-winning film, but Apple TV+ doesn't reveal too many plot details in that trailer. In the book, the killer is a ne'er-do-well who discovers a key that allows him to travel through time, though the price he has to pay for the privilege is killing women along the way. Moss plays an aspiring Chicago journalist who survives an encounter with a murderer and then turns the table on her attacker, but as the trailer suggests, she's not quite certain who she is. We can't say for certain, but the themes of this show look like they are going to get dark as hell.

Shining Girls was adapted for television by Silka Luisa, who also stars as a reporter who helps Kirby on her mission. The first three episodes of the series will be directed by Game of Throne and Breaking Bad alumni, with the rest of the series rolling out weekly.
