The Dione, a $2,400 Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 soundbar with built-in subs and a central speaker that can rotates depending on the soundbar's installed position, was announced today. The French audio company calls it the "ultimate all-in-one soundbar" since it completely excludes satellite speakers in favor of a virtual surround solution.
There are 17 drivers in the Dione, eight of which are used as the subs, another eight for full-range audio, and a center driver inside the orb. If you want to make the sound orientation adjustment via the mobile app, the Dione has a gyroscope that will do it for you.
The orb is not automatic. To aim the central speaker in the correct direction, you need to manually rotate the orb. The orb isn't motorized, which is a shame since soundbars like the Elevate have motor-assisted audio. The orb serves as a visual distinction that matches the other products, like the Phantom speakers.
The Dione's main claim to fame is its proprietary technology with features like the energy-saving ADH amplifier chip included in the company's Phantom speakers. The new soundbar has a feature that can upscale stereo sound into virtual 5.1.2 audio channels and ADE, which enhances the 3D effect using audio beamforming.
The Dione has a single HDMI 2.1 eARC port on the bottom. The soundbar can be used to stream audio using AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect.
The Dione's price point puts it against other premium soundbars, including the $2,499.95 Sennheiser Ambeo, which supports Chromecast. The Amebo is getting a software update to match the Dione's features. The Dione has more drivers than the Ambeo and can be had for less.
If you're already a fan of the company and want to get a Dione soundbar, you can pre-order it today at select retailers or directly from the company's website.
