Romney said in an interview with CNN that the NATO alliance would be damaged if Donald Trump were to win the election. Romney said NATO members would wonder if they could count on the United States.

If he were to return as the U.S. president, I think it would represent a huge departure for the world, and they would question whether they could count on the United States to lead NATO as they push back against China.

During his presidency, Trump downplayed the U.S. commitment to NATO and criticized member states for not giving enough financial support. He was considering withdrawing the U.S. from NATO, according to his former national security adviser.

In a second term, I think he may have withdrawn from NATO, according to the Washington Post.

Trump's critics argue that Putin's top priority was to weaken the NATO alliance, and that he was an ally in attaining that goal.

Trump lavished praise on Putin as he massed troops along the borders of Russia and Ukraine.

I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, "This is genius." He used the word "independent" on the show.

After the start of the Russian invasion, Trump sought to portray himself as NATO's salvation.

The former president said in a written statement that he got NATO members to start paying their dues, which amounted to hundreds of billions of dollars.

There is no evidence to back up Trump's claim that NATO was in danger of collapsing over the issue of dues.

NATO members banded together in opposition to a Russian attack in order to impose sanctions on the Russian government.

Romney was asked if NATO had been damaged by the presidency of Trump.
