Questions have been raised over the extent of her activism within the GOP after she sent text messages to a former White House chief of staff.

Republican lawmakers are grappling with how to respond to Thomas and her husband.

Thomas sent 21 text messages to the chief of staff, urging him to find a way to keep former President Trump in office.

Her efforts may have gone beyond her words. NBC News reported that Thomas reached out to an aide with the Republican Study Committee, the largest conservative caucus in the House, asking them to go out in the streets.

A Republican Study Committee aide acknowledged the existence of an email exchange between Thomas and a departing staffer.

Thomas has been in conservative circles for a long time. Her activities were not questioned until recently, when a New Yorker profile and the release of the text messages highlighted her involvement with groups and suggestions of ways to try to overturn the election.

Her contact with Republicans in support of Trump is putting scrutiny on her husband, who is facing calls from Democrats to step down from cases related to the Capitol riot. The Supreme Court is seen as the best chance for blocking the House investigation into the attack.

It is possible that Thomas could be called to testify before the House committee.

Bennie Thompson, the chairman of the select committee, told CBS this week that he was very confident in inviting her to the committee, and that if she refused, he would issue a subpoena.

Two of the conservative Republicans identified by Stop the Steal organizer Ali Alexander as being central to the effort, as well as mentions of well-known conservative Reps., were included in Thomas's texts.

In one text message, Thomas said that members of Congress were not doing enough to support Trump. Gohmert, Jordan, Gosar, and Roy.

Many Republican members of Congress are familiar with Thomas, but they did not elaborate on whether she sent them the same kinds of messages about reversing the election that she did to Meadows in the period between the 2020 election and January 6 insurrection.

The chair of the House Freedom Caucus told reporters that his relationship with Thomas was not very close and that he could not remember if he had text messaged or email him.

Gohmert said he may have talked to her one time. According to the Washington Post, Thomas forwarded material that she said she got from Gohmert's chief of staff.

Roy called Thomas a dear friend, but he took a different attitude towards the Stop the Steal efforts than she did. Roy criticized his colleagues for planning to object to certifying the Electoral College results.

Roy said he was not going to describe any private conversations he had with Ginni. He said that Thomas has criticized calls for her husband to be impeached for years.

Some on the committee refused to comment on Thomas, but others were open about the need to hear from her.

We want to hear from everyone who has something to say. She was involved with the effort to overturn the election and interacted frequently with the president's chief of staff. "So speaking as one member, I think it's important that we hear from her."

Republican arguments minimized her activism.

She has the same First Amendment right as anyone else in the country to advance her political views, but she doesn't have the same right to engage in coups and insurrections.

Clarence Thomas has never stepped aside from a case due to a conflict of interest because of his wife's political activities.

He didn't want to be involved in any of the pro-Trump legal challenges. The Supreme Court ruling that cleared the way for the panel to obtain Trump White House records was cast by him.

Another 22 progressive lawmakers issued a letter calling for him to rescue himself from any Jan. 6 cases after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) called for his impeachment Tuesday morning.

Republicans argue that Thomas's work can be different.

We were told that it was wrong to presume the feelings of a spouse on to a justice, despite the activities of Ruth Ginsburg's husband.

I think what we are seeing is hypocrisy from those who are calling for his impeachment. I think it will hurt women's advances. If you are a conservative woman, you need to be back in the kitchen barefoot.

She was also called an independent person by Biggs.

She is living her life. He said that she has her own opinions. There is no indication that they have any influence on Justice Thomas.
