Over the past few years, many companies have abandoned their use of Android tablets. Every year, it releases new tablets with killer hardware and respectable software, but no one gave it the memo.

The best tablets from the best brands have a lot to set them apart compared to other brands.

Best overall: Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+

The winning formula of the Tab S7+ is retained by the Tab S8 and it makes subtle improvements to keep its place as the best tablet money can buy. It has the same 12.4-inch display, a lightweight design, quad speakers, and dependable battery life. To improve, it adds the same flagship processor as the S22 series, a wider selfie camera, and an extra 2GB of RAM.

Most of these perks are shared by the Tab S8 and Tab S8 Ultra. The Tab S8 Ultra and the 11-inch Tab S8 have the same size and memory as the Tab S8+, but the Tab S8 Ultra has a better price. The Tab S8+ is the best of the lot.

OneUI 4 added a lot of seamless multitasking tools. The new OS allows you to use pinned apps from a hidden taskbar side by side with one another so you can use three or more at once. DeX mode uses a PC-like interface and works best with a laptop and mouse.

A large display that gives several apps room to breathe is what you want. The Tab S8+ and S8 Ultra are both small enough to be used as handheld tablets, but the Ultra is too large.

The Plus-sized Tab is the model that we recommend the most.

Best affordable premium tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab S8

The biggest upside of the Tab S8 series is that it doesn't reserve as many premium features for the most expensive models. The Tab S8 has the same refresh rate, quad speakers, and 12MP wide-angle selfie camera as its more expensive siblings, but it has thinner and lighter bodies. The Plus and Ultra cost $400 more.

In exchange, you swap your AMOLED display for an LCD display that doesn't have the same color fidelity. The Tab S8 gets 100 nits brighter than the S8+, and its battery life beats the larger Tabs despite a much smaller capacity. It has the highest resolution of the family.

You have less room for multitasking on the Tab S8. It is better for casual use like streaming and gaming in bed than it is for DeX mode, and you may not want to pay a premium for that. If you keep in mind that it will get five years of support, this Tab will give you more than its worth over time.

Best mid-range tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE

It was made with frugal fans in mind.

The flagship-killing Galaxy S20 FE is one of the most well-known devices in the FE range. The Fan Edition of the Tab S7 series doesn't live up to the label. The S7 and S7+ elements were crammed into a massive tablet that is more affordable than both, but made some significant compromises to justify the price drop.

The Tab S7 FE gives you tons of perks for a mid-range tablet, but it also has price-cutting compromises outshone by the other S7s. It has the same 12.4-inch display as the S7+, but there is a different type of display. It has an S Pen and supports DeX mode for productivity, but it is not as fast as the S7's 865+. Even though it has a cellular version, its speeds will be limited by its 4GB of RAM.

The Tab S5e and S6 lite are cheaper than the Tab S7 FE, but they are not as good as the Tab A series. The Tab S8 has an extra display size, but it is not as large as the Tab S8+, so it will fit the bill for anyone who wants a large slab for streaming but can't afford the Tab S8+.

If you can do without 120Hz, and many people won't notice the absence unless they're already used to it, this tablet will last 13 hours per charge.

Best laptop-replacement tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra

The best laptop-replacement tablets.

The Tab S8 Ultra is the only one of its kind that can come close to offering. The same smooth refresh rate as a much-smaller flagship phone can be found in the display space at 14.6 inches. There is a tiny notch that you will quickly grow accustomed to ignoring, and it is perfectly equipped for productivity in DeX mode or while juggling multiple apps.

Our reviewer loved using the Tab S8 Ultra as a second screen with his other devices, and its size works well for that. It can work as well as any laptop with the same thin bezels you would see on a much more expensive device. The S Pen is great for note-taking and can be used to navigate through information.

You will have to accept some obvious drawbacks with a device of this size. The Tab S8 Ultra is already high in price, but the Book Cover Keyboard accessory is even more expensive. Regular apps look ugly and blown up when not multitasking, not taking advantage of the space. If you spend this much on a device, you would want a more polished experience like Windows or Chrome OS.

The Tab S8 Ultra has no competition for premium performance.

Best for students: Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

The Tab S6 lite is older and smaller than the S7 FE, but it has a few strong attributes that are worth mentioning for students.

The S6 lite has a panel with a 2000x1200 resolution. Thanks to the included S Pen, you have a perfect canvas for taking notes in class or drawing during your free time, and whichever app or game you are running will look good here. The cheap Tab A tablets do not usually come with an S Pen and are often less than HD resolution.

The S6 lite gives a lot for a small amount of money, and it has a stylish display with excellent stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Tab S6 lite has a lot to be desired, its Exynos 9611 chip leaves a lot to be desired. If you use banking apps and password managers, you should know that you don't get a fingerprint sensor of any kind. It is a great middle-ground purchase for students who want an affordable, relatively compact tablet for class.

Best Chromebook 2-in-1 tablet: Samsung Galaxy Chromebook

The Tab S8 series is for premium quality and the Tab A series is for budget quality. There is a third option, which is to buy one of the best Chromebooks that can be used as a laptop and a tablet. The DeX mode on the Android skin is great, but the overall experience on the OS is more tailored.

The best display on this list is the 13.3-inch 3840x2160 (4K) AMOLED screen of the Samsung Chromebook. The Chromebook is designed for a beautiful experience on a tablets. It has a fiesta red design that is very attention-catching. Whether you use it in laptop, tablet, or tent form, it will make a statement.

You will get a 10th Gen Intel Core i5 with 8GB of RAM, and a very solid 128GB Solid State Drive for a Chromebooks. You will have to accept a higher-than-average price and lower-than-average battery performance in exchange for it. The Tab S7 will likely last you as long as it takes, thanks to the 4K visuals and laptop-quality processor.

This device will give you reliable performance for a long time. You will get seven more years of updates with the Chromebook, which is more than you can get with an iPad, so it should last you a long time.

Best compact budget tablet: Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite

Just as with the phones, the tablets crush the Tabs. If you are in the market for a cheap, lightweight, and easy to use device that doesn't make a lot of compromises, theGalaxy Tab A7 lite is your best bet. It is incredibly affordable, with the app library Fire Tablets lack, plus the tools and tricks you know and love. It is easier to hold while lying in bed than any other pick on this list.

This is a budget tablet. It can clock 4 x 2.3 GHz + 4 x 1.8 GHz, but nothing to write home about. It won't hit FHD with a 1340x800 display. Like most of its class, it has thicker bezels on the top and bottom. For its price, these specifications are not bad.

You will get a long- lasting battery life, dual stereo speakers, 15W fast charging, and up to 4GB of RAM, which is equal to the base RAM of more expensive tablets. The lightweight frame of the Tab makes it especially comfortable to hold. This is a great option for casual streaming and browsing.

Even though hardly anyone else supports the form factor, the lineup ofAndroid tablets from SAMSUNG is impressive. We have to give our highest recommendation to the Tab S8+.

The Tab S8+ has a lot of power to back up the huge 2960 x 1848 resolution of the display. This hardware bundles these components up in a really nice design and comes in at a price tag that is pretty fair when you consider everything you are getting.

If you have different tastes and budgets, there are other options out there, but the balance of being the Tab S8+ is what you want, especially if you are already used to the way the platform works.
