The New Orleans Saints have agreed to a one-year contract with veteran quarterback Andy Dalton.
The deal is worth up to $6 million.
The New Orleans signed Jameis Winston to a two-year, $28 million deal last week, which is likely to make him the starting quarterback in 2022. The backup role is important because of the injury to Winston.
Dennis Allen said Tuesday that Hill will be used at tight end rather than as a quarterback.
Ian Book andBlake Bortles are the only two players on the depth chart who have started a game in the last two seasons.
Over the course of 11 years, he will add experience at the position.
He made eight appearances for the Chicago Bears last season and finished with 1,515 passing yards and eight touchdown against nine picks. He had 14 touchdown passes and 2,170 yards with eight turnovers in 11 appearances for the Dallas Cowboys a year ago.
The veteran is best known for his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, having earned three Pro Bowl selections while leading the team to the playoffs five straight times.
Though his struggles prevented him from getting a starting job, he will help the Saints stabilizing a position with a lot of unknowns.
