The Carolina Panthers have not ruled out re-signing quarterback CamNewton, but he is exploring other options.

I have teams that are interested in signing me, but I am waiting for the best fit as it pertains to winning a championship and getting a fair chance to play.

The Carolinas went 15-1 in the regular season and made it to the Super Bowl. He has been the starter for 30 years and has gone 30-36 with injuries diminishing his effectiveness.

After Carolina released the three-time Pro Bowl selection before Matt Rhule's first season as head coach, he went 7-8 as the starter in New England in 2020.

Sam Darnold went on injured reserve and the Carolinas re-signedNewton late last season. He was replaced in the final game after going 0-5 as the starter.

Since the end of the season, Rhule has been in contact withNewton.

Rhule said that she loved CamNewton, an amazing leader, at the NFL owners meeting in South Florida. He is an amazing football player. Everything we do has to be right for the organization.

It is not known if the Carolina team that has gone 10-23 in Rhule's first two seasons will want to return to them.

Scott Fitterer said last week that it was not just us saying, "Hey, Cam, come on back." He has to like the role. It is a good fit for both of us.

The door is open. I would love to have someone with his leadership. He brought a lot to the team last year and helped us out during a difficult time. He is a really special person.

The focus is on getting Darnold to improve on his 4-7 record last season, even though the door is open forNewton to compete for a starting spot. Last week, Fitterer said that the No. 3 draft pick is the leader.

Rhule said he expects a significant improvement from the quarterback.

The Carolinas want to add another quarterback to their roster along with P.J. Walker. Signing one in free agency, trading for one or using the sixth pick of the draft on one are all possibilities.

They spent last week at the pro days of three players. Rhule believes that one of the quarterbacks will be a top 10 pick.

Rhule made it clear that Carolina isn't locked in on a quarterback for the sixth pick, even though Fitterer says the best way to build a team is around a young quarterback.

He would have to determine how close Carolina is to becoming a playoff and championship contender before he would consider a long-term solution. He is spending the off season exploring his options and looking for new business opportunities.

Overtime, which launched the Overtime Elite basketball league last year, is partnering withNewton on a new 7-on-7 football league called OT7.

The door is still open for us. He knows where we are. We will see where it goes.
