The Connecticut women's basketball team extended its streak of consecutive Final Four appearances to 14 with a double-overtime victory over NC State in the regional final.
They will play on Friday.
It was the first Final Four appearance for the program since 1998.
Freshman Azzi Fudd and senior Christyn Williams both finished with 21 points, and sophomore Paige Bueckers, who missed 19 games due to a knee injury, scored 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field.
Two days ago, I told them to win or go home, but they won and I am still going home. I am so excited no matter where it is.
Junior Jakia Brown-Turner was the leading scorer for NC State with 20 points.
The Wolfpack came back in the third and fourth quarters to take the lead for the first time since the first basket of the game, after the Huskies had led for the majority of regulation and by as many as 10 in the second quarter.
With the score tied and just under 30 seconds to go, Nelson-Ododa missed the go-ahead free throws. NC State guard Kai Crutchfield had a chance to win the game with a potential game-winning 3.
The game went to a second overtime when Brown-Turner's corner 3 extended the game by five minutes.
Christyn Williams made a layup with less than 10 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Connecticut. The game had 26 lead changes by the time the final buzzer sounded.
Dorka Juh went down with an apparent wrist injury early in the second quarter, which caused the University of Connecticut to lose some steam.
The team has been through a lot and it has made them stronger. We all love each other. It just means that we have been through a lot this year. Whole bunch of ups and downs. We stayed together and composed.
