The airport in Austin is very busy. The main terminal expanded with more gates. The airport has more seats scheduled this summer.

There were no people at the airport this morning. They were on their way to the airport. It took me 20 minutes to find one, and that car was 18 miles away. We arrived at 6 a.m. The driver was sent down to departures because the line of cars was at a dead stop at the airport's upper level.

People were abandoning rental cars and walking to the terminal in order to make their flights, and backups were everywhere.

Never seen anything like this. Abandoned rental cars this far from drop off at Austin airport at 6:30 am. TSA lines are 3k deep, wrapped outside. Only reason we’re making flight is TSA Precheck. Ridiculous @AUStinAirport @Enterprise pic.twitter.com/qb3plAvhkv

The security lines were long. PreCheck lines were wrapped around the airport. I barely made my flight even though I was late.

On Sunday there was a golf tournament and NASCAR added to the traffic. The end of South By Southwest or UT Austin Spring Break is no bigger than other times. The airport isn't big enough for the city, but it isn't just a question of size. The biggest problem at the airport is the configuration; once you make it through security, the airport was fairly quiet.

The airport in Austin declared a fuel shortage and told airlines to bring in extra fuel for their planes.

The @AUStinAirport operates with 2 to 3 days worth of fuel supply when most airports of similar size operate with 5 to 7 days worth of fuel – which is why airport officials say a new fuel facility is desperately needed. @KVUE

Local politics are stalling a jet fuel tank farm expansion project. The expansion had been viewed as a done deal but the issue of how to move forward has been reopened. The airport doesn't have enough fuel in March and will see more flights with more seats that burn more fuel as the year goes on. Expansion of the fuel tank farm can be done soon.

The airport will expand eventually. The current plan involves building remote concourses and scrapping the new low cost South Terminal.

Our initial #AEDP projects will transform the Barbara Jordan Terminal through:

👮‍♂️ New passenger screening capacity

✈️New gate capacity

🧳A new baggage handling system

🎫Expanded ticket counters

The second terminal in Austin will be eliminated to make way for the main terminal. One of the fastest growing airports in the country is figuring out how to accommodate the flights passengers want and airlines want to offer. But in the past.

In airports.

There are 10 things organizations can learn from airports. The underlying understanding of airports seems off the mark, even though the lessons for organizations may be right, or more right than wrong. Godin doesn't like commodity products.

In general.

Delta Air Lines is rolling out anti-microbial bins at security checkpoint in Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Los Angeles, New York-LaGuardia and New York-JFK. There are more germs in the screening bins than there are in the monkey outbreak. The sick passengers touch the bins.
