The New York Post is wondering if the Oscar that Smith won for Best Actor could be taken away because of the incident.

The Academy released new standards of conduct in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein revelations.

There is no place in the Academy for people who abuse their status, power or influence in a way that violates standards of decency.

The second person to ever have been expelled from the Academy was Weinstein.

A range of conduct by Academy Award winners has not resulted in discipline. The Oscar for Best Director went to Roman Polanski, who fled the US in 1978 after pleading guilty to having sex with a girl. The Academy accepted the award on Polanski's behalf, as he would have faced arrest if he traveled to the ceremony.

In 1973, actor and activist Sacheen Littlefeather accepted the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and spoke about the poor treatment of Native Americans. She said John Wayne tried to storm the stage, but security restrained him.

Smith told the audience that he was driven by a desire to protect others during his acceptance speech for Best actor. He didn't apologize to Rock directly.

He apologized in his speech to the Academy and all his fellow nominees.

I hope the Academy invites me back. Thank you.
