Eric "Adam" Ewoldsen, 38 , died Friday after being found unresponsive in a parked vehicle in Fayetteville, according to the U.S. Army Special Forces Command.

According to a statement from Fort Bragg's U.S. Army Special Operations Command, the officer who died was identified as Maj. Eric Ewoldsen.

Ewoldsen was pronounced dead at the medical center.

The loss of Adam is a tragedy for his family, friends and fellow soldiers, according to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command commanding general.

The Fort Bragg soldier died after being found unresponsive in a car.

The Army Criminal Investigation Division is handling the investigation. There was no cause of death released.

The time and location where Ewoldsen was found were not released.

In 2007, Ewoldsen joined the Army as an infantry officer. He served with the 4th brigade combat team, 25th infantry division at Fort Richardson, Alaska in 2008; the 3rd battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia in 2010; and the 2nd brigade combat team, 2nd infantry division at Joint Base Lewis.

The U.S. Army assigned Ewoldsen to Fort Bragg. Public records show he lived in Southern Pines.

He was deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq multiple times in support of operations.

In 2007, Ewoldsen graduated from the United States Military Academy. He completed the Command and General Staff College, Infantry Basic Officer Leader course, Infantry Mortar Leader course, Infantry Maneuver Captain course, Basic Airborne course, and Military Free Fall Parachutist course.

His awards include the Bronze Star medal, Meritorious Service medal, Army Commendation medal, Army Achievement medal, Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal, and National Defense Service medal.
