Troy Kotsur with his Oscar, and the actor in costume as a Tusken on The Mandalorian.

Dune's six Oscar wins last night was the biggest success in sci-fi. The first-ever film to win Best Picture was Coda. Sian's film is a touching story about a young woman who is able to hear, but her family is not.

You may not know that he played a huge role in the first season of The Mandalorian. Mando is crossing the deserts of Tatooine in the fifth episode of the first season. Mando uses a unique form of sign language to communicate with them. The sign language for the show was created by Kotsur, who also plays the Tusken in the show. He was the first deafness actor to appear in a Star Wars movie.

These facts are not news. People have been talking about Kotsur since the Mandalorian episode ended. When it was first released, it became a bigger deal. We thought it would be fun to revisit and explain to a few people the Star Wars connection after he won an Oscar.

I did research on the culture and environment of Tuskens. I made sure it became a sign language for the Tuskens because I wanted to show them that they are not as evil as we first met them in A New Hope. All of those characters were massacred by the Pykes.

The link between this movie and our favorite movie is lovely. If you want to watch The Gunslinger from The Mandalorian season one, you should check out Disney+.
