The auto-lock feature on this device can be a bit difficult to use at times, especially when the door isn't completely closed and the owner is just heading out to the curb to take out the trash. It requires a separate bridge to work with the voice assistant.

The standard Smart Lock does not support HomeKit when attached to an August Connect. For less than the Pro, it works just fine. It's an ideal choice for anyone who doesn't want to give out a physical key, as you can create guest keys for friends' phones with a set expiration date.

August makes some of the best smart door locks and the Smart Lock works with your existing lock and keys, so you don't have to replace them. It has Door Sense technology that will let you know if your door is open or closed. It will lock automatically when you leave and when you return.

If multiple users are coming in and out of the home, you could get locked out if you don't have your phone with you. The mechanism can be loud, so don't count on it to cover you when you sneak in late.

Best for smart home: Schlage Encode

If you lose your phone, you need another way to get into your home. A PIN may be more convenient than a physical key. With Schlage Encode, you can lock and unlock your door with your voice, and even share it with friends, family, dog walkers, and others.

The touchscreen is resistant to fingerprints so you won't be able to give away your PIN. With the upgraded option, the Schlage Encode Plus can now be used to access your door with a tap of your phone. This doorlock is connected to the internet so you can see what codes have been used to help monitor who has come and gone.

The device is easy to install, you just need a screwdriver and a few minutes. If anyone starts messing with your lock, you will be notified on your phone. Schlage is known for its hardware prowess, and this device is no exception. It also means that it comes with a hefty price tag, but you can rest assured that you are getting a solid product.

You won't be able to rely on muscle memory to input your code, but that also prevents would-be thieves from easily determining which numbers to press. The lockly secure pro has a reader that can remember up to 99 unique prints This lock makes you feel like a spy.

Lockly's app is easy to use, and you will not have to worry about sharing access with guests or checking the device's battery status. It is nice to know that the hub is included with your purchase, and you don't have to worry about ordering it separately.

There are some drawbacks to the smart lock. It is one of the more expensive options we have come across. The touchscreen doesn't get very bright, which can make it difficult to put your code in direct sunlight.

Tried and true: Yale Assure Lock

The Yale Assure is a traditional smart door lock. You can manage the lock anywhere with the additional purchase of a hub. You can assign codes to guests without giving out our master PIN if it remembers 250 unique PIN codes. If something goes wrong, you can lock every code out of the system. Installation only takes a few minutes and a screwdriver, and there are two physical keys included if you need them. The lock is also compatible with the Amazon Key service.

If you want to update your whole hardware setup, you can purchase bundles with different door handles in different styles and colors. The lock is weather resistant and comes with two backup keys. This device is quiet, unlike many other locks on this list.

Best hybrid lock: Kwikset Kevo Convert

The Kevo Convert is perfect for rental homes because it only replaces your interior lock. It can lock after 30 seconds if you approach it. You will be able to operate the lock with the Kevo Connected Hub if you purchase it. You can set up a smart lock for no-touch open-door entry and get notifications when guests access the door. You can send eKeys to your guests or lock them out remotely.

This model does not work with the Amazon Key service, but there are other compatible models that do. Unlike other options, the Kevo Convert can work with deadbolts from a variety of manufacturers.

Secure your door from anywhere

The August Smart Lock Pro is our favorite of the many smart locks that can work with the Amazon voice assistant. It may be pricey, but it supports a wide range of smart home standards, works without replacing your lock, and looks great.

Smart locks from manufacturers like Yale, Schlage, and Kwikset can be connected to smart cameras through the Key service from Amazon. You can see and grant access to your home. Purchasing a pre-set security bundle for the Amazon Key service can be expensive.
