With the OneUI 3.1 update based on Android 11 to most phones in its portfolio, it is aiming to outdo itself. The new features in the OneUI 4.0 are included in the Android 12 update.

The design is not too different to the current OneUI 3.1, but there is a lot to be excited about with Dynamic Color, a version of the colorful Material You design aesthetic.

The OneUI 4.0 stable update started rolling out to the S21 series in November of 2021, just a month after the release of the Pixel 6 series.

The update can be installed on most of the phones released in the next three years.

One UI 4.0 has a lot of new features

New features and an update to the interface are part of OneUI 4.0. While OneUI 3.1 featured a few refinements over OneUI 2.0, the interface was left largely unchanged so we are due for an update in this area.

Samsung took the best bits of Android 12 from Google and added its own flavor.

We got a first look at the Material You color picker in OneUI 4 beta 2. It is a really cool addition, and while the effect isn't as extreme as what you'll find on your own devices, it is still an interesting new feature that will get a lot of usage.

The notification pane is easier to use now that the brightness is larger. It is not as large as the one on the Pixels, with the right balance. eSIM for the S21 models in the U.S. is enabled by OneUI 4.0.

OneUI 4 has a nifty permission usage history that lets you see what permission has been accessed. You can turn off camera or mic access system-wide with a single button in the location permissions window, which is similar to what you can find in the new interface of the phone.

The green recording indicator was added by the company to make sure no service in the background allows access without you knowing.

A new interface for disabling notifications from the pane is one of the changes in OneUI 4.0. The ability to set custom colors for notifications is a useful accessibility feature. You can use an augmented reality image as your profile photo.

The camera is getting a new design with OneUI 4.0, with a cleaner design, video recording that starts when you press the Record button, and zoom levels on the lens icons.

At the end of 2021, it was confirmed that there would be no ads within OneUI. Under-the-hood tweaking is one of the major features of OneUI 4.0, and it allows the company to take full advantage of high-end hardware like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200.

With its flagships and most of its mid-range devices now offering 120Hz panels, anyUIoptimizations will make a noticeable difference.

What's new in One UI 4.1?

The standard version of OneUI 4.1 was included in the box of the flagship Galaxy S22 series.

In the same way that it did with OneUI 3.1 last year, it is now updating older phones directly to OneUI 4.1.

OneUI 4.1 has a feature called a virtual RAM that uses a paging file to increase the available memory on your phone. Depending on your device, you can choose up to 8GB of additional RAM.

The color picker is a key highlight. The OneUI 4.1 version has a vertical preview bar that gives you a better overview of the colors you are selecting.

There is a version of Smart Widgets that is being brought bySamsung. You have the option to stack several items and switch between them with gestures. For productivity, there is a smart calendar that lets you easily create events from a messaging platform.

Night mode is now available for portrait shots, and the Pro mode is available on all the cameras. OneUI 4.1 allows you to create custom vibration patterns.

The OneUI 4.1 build is on its way to newer flagships and older phones.
