The attendance at the Women's European Championship final at Wembley on 31 July could surpass the record for any match for men or women.
The tickets for the decider sold out in an hour.
The highest attendance for a Euros match is for the 1964 final in Madrid, with men and women both attending.
The men's final between England and Italy was attended by over 67,000 people.
The previous record attendance for a Women's European Championship final was 41,302, which was set when Germany defeated Sweden. The attendance record for a football match is 89,874 for the 2008 FA Cup final between Cardiff and Pompey.
More than half of the tickets available for the tournament had already been sold before the general sale on Monday.
