Smith hit Rock on stage. Smith shouted to Rock to keep his wife's name out of his mouth after returning to his seat.

The moment sparked responses from all over the world, including from the chairman of the Commons select committee.

If someone thought it was funny to make a joke at the expense of a medical condition, I would get up and lamp him. The joke was tasteless.

Although his comment has caused some controversy, he is not backing down.

Smith won best actor for his role as Serena and Venus Williams in King Richard, and he gave a contrite acceptance speech in which he said he hoped the Academy would invite him back.
