When one follower asked if Musk would consider building a new social platform, he replied that it would consist of an open source algorithm, and that free speech and adhering to free speech is given top priority.

Musk joked about how cool it would be if he bought the social media giant and changed its logo to that of Doge.

Musk got into trouble over his posts several times, most notably when he said that he was taking the company private with almost nothing to back it up. After the platform determined that Donald Trump's tweets about the U.S. Capitol riots were inciting violence, he was banned from the platform. Trump responded by starting his own social media platform.

There is no telling how serious Musk is about this. Even though the CEO has run software companies before, running a social media site is out of his usual area of interest.

The idea of a social media site that is free of advertising and immune to censorship has been floating around for a while. There are several projects that claim to be decentral, but none have a large user base.
