Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars after he told a joke about Smith's wife.

As a stand-up comic, Rock began sending barbs into the crowd when he presented Best Documentary. After making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, Rock said he was looking forward to seeing her in G.I. Jane II. Pinkett-Smith was sporting a buzzcut just like her character in the movie G.I. Jane. Pinkett- Smith has been open about her struggles with hair loss and bald spots.

After Rock's joke, Pinkett- Smith rolled her eyes. Smith walked to the stage and hit Rock as the Oscars went off the air. The whole thing was aired in Japan and other countries. Smith repeated the phrase and kept his wife's name out of his mouth.

The moment sent the theater into a panicked state. P Diddy tried to calm the situation by saying that Will and Chris would solve it at the Gold Party.

everyone in the room looks so freaked out. Congratulations to Will Smith, America’s most beloved movie star (1990s division) for absolutely derailing this broadcast

Vanity Fair reporter Rebecca Ford reported that Washington played a role in the situation.

During this break, Denzel pulled Will aside to talk to him and they walk away from their seats together. Denzel now has his arm around Jada and is kneeling next to her even though the show has started. #Oscars

It's not the first time Rock made a joke at the couple's expense. Jada Pinkett- Smith supported the #OscarsSoWhite boycott when Rock hosted the Oscars. Jada boycotting the Oscars is the same as me boycotting the panties. He said that he wasn't invited.

Many jokes were directed at Smith and Pinkett- Smith. Smith has acknowledged is an open relationship with his wife and co-host,Regina Hall, poked fun at it when she said she wanted to sleep with many of the famous actors at the Oscars. It looks like Jada approved you, so you get on up here! Hall said to Smith.
