Mitchell Trubisky will be the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, but that doesn't mean his job is safe.

We have been at top quarterback pro days for the first time in a long time because we may have a need. Does that mean we are taking one? Kevin Colbert told reporters that it was possible.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Trubisky signed a two-year, $14.3 million deal with the Steelers earlier this month that could be worth up to $27 million. He was the backup to Josh Allen for the 2021 season after four seasons with the Bears.

The long-term solution other than Trubisky is something that the Steelers are considering. The North Carolina product threw for 10,662 yards and 64 touchdown against 38 picks in his 50 games in the NFL. Trubisky is a clear upgrade over Roethlisberger, but his ceiling is below average.

Pitt's Kenny Pickett and Liberty's Malik Willis are the top two quarterbacks in the draft, but neither are home run prospects. It is possible that a quarterback will fail to go inside the top 10 for the first time in four years.

The scarcity of the quarterback position makes it unlikely that either of them will be available when the Steelers pick at 20. Pittsburgh could try to make a rare trade up in the draft to get its preferred option.

The New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy reported that the PittsburghSteelers would consider a trade if their preferred quarterback fell to 10 or lower.

After spending four years as a starter at Pitt, Pickett is considered the surer bet of the two. He is a prospect who does most things well but does not pop off the screen.

Josh Allen was gifted with the physical skills to garner comparisons to him, but also major question marks about the level of competition he has faced and his decision-making in the pocket.

With Colbert retiring after the draft, the final act of his Steelers career may be selecting the face of the franchise for the next decade.
