Kinzinger said on Sunday that he wasn't sure if former Trump White House chief of staff MarkMeadows had turned over all relevant documents to the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol.

During an appearance on CBS's "Face the Nation", the Illinois Republican told guest host John Dickerson that he didn't think the information that the panel wants to review has been presented fully.

He said that he was not confident that Meadows had handed over everything.

He said that they gave him plenty of time to come back. He has not. He waives executive privilege a thousand times by showing us what he already has.

The congressman commented after The Washington Post and CNN obtained 29 text messages exchanged between him and the wife of a Supreme Court Justice that spoke of a fight to overturn the 2020 presidential election results.

The House of Representatives voted last year to hold Meadows in contempt after he refused to testify before the committee. He initially stated that he would comply with the questions, but then reversed his decision.

While the Capitol was being attacked, the White House sent thousands of critical correspondences to Meadows, which could show what happened in Trump's circle. Kinzinger, who was on the panel, could not speak to the text messages that were published last week.

The congressman said that he didn't have respect for the legislative body where he once served as a member from North Carolina.

The Department of Justice has the power to prosecute him for contempt now that he has handed over everything to us.

He said that he has contempt for the American people as well as for Congress. I hope the DOJ does the right thing and that we get all the information that the American people deserve.
