England captain Joe Root is consoled by Ben Stokes after the third Test against West Indies
Joe Root (front centre) has won 27 of his 64 games as England Test captain

After his side lost to the West Indies, Joe Root said he wanted to remain England captain.

England's winless run stretched to nine Tests as they were thrashed by 10 runs in the third Test in Grenada.

The four series defeats in a row is the fourth in a row for the captain, who has been in the job for just over a year.

"I'm still very passionate about taking this team forward, I have won a record 27 Tests leading England."

I want to see them smile and celebrate because we don't feel that far away.

England have only won one of 17 Tests going back to February 2021.

They are behind India in a five-Test series that was postponed last summer with one game left to play.

When England lost to the West Indies on the third day of the game, former captain Michael Vaughan said he felt it was time for Joe Root to step down.

When asked if he wanted to continue, he said that he had made that clear.

All I can do is do what I can to help England win games of cricket and that will never change.

Chris Silverwood left the England team after theAshes and the managing director and head coach positions were vacant.

The roles of Andrew and Paul will be made permanent before the next Test against New Zealand, which starts on 2 June.

'Poor decision making and a lack of skill'

England were the better team in the first two Tests of the series, but were unable to win on the final day. They were outplayed for large periods in the decider.

They lost the toss and were put in to bat, but Jack Leach and Saqib Mahmood put on 204 for the ninth-wicket.

They reduced the hosts to 95-6 but were unable to wrap up the tail and give up a 93-run deficit after the first day.

England were guilty of causing their own downfall with poor shot selections and a needless run out of Ben Foakes, leaving them 83-6, still 10 runs behind.

The West Indies beat them in 4.5 overs to win.

It is a punch to take because for the majority of the series we have played good cricket.

It is a big frustration. We have put a lot of effort into this trip, and I think our attitude has been exceptional, as you can see, there has been a big shift forward in a number of areas.

It is a body blow and we have to learn from it and not forget the good things we have done.

The guys have worked so hard and done so many good things, but at times a lack of skill has let us down when we really needed to stand up.

Vote: Who should captain England in first New Zealand Test?

We asked you who you wanted to be England's captain on the tour of West Indies. The vote saw a majority of people keep faith with Root.

Is that still the case? The first Test between England and New Zealand will be held in England.
