According to Ukrainian military intelligence, Russia is trying to split the country in two after failing to conquer the whole country during its military offensive.

According to Sky News, the defense intelligence chief of Ukraine said on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to create a situation like North and South Korea in the country.

After World War II, Korea was divided into two countries, the Soviet-backed North Korea and the US-backed South Korea.

Budanov said that Ukraine believes that Putin wants to seize the east and south of the country. Budanov said that the strategy involves building a land corridor between the east and the peninsula.

Budanov said that Putin would draw a line between that area and the rest of the country.

The Mariupol area is a major obstacle to this strategy because of the fierce resistance Russian troops face.
