Despite trade rumors surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo, it appears the San Francisco 49ers quarterback could become a free agent in the coming weeks or months.

Garoppolo had surgery on his throwing shoulder and could be cut by the 49ers. A source told Florio that no team would want to trade for the veteran quarterback because of the shoulder surgery.

49ers general manager John Lynch told interested teams that he had an offer of two second-round picks for Garoppolo. It is not clear which teams are interested in acquiring him.

It is not surprising that teams are not interested in acquiring Garoppolo given the circumstances. The Eastern Illinois product has a lengthy injury history, which doesn't help his case.

He played one full season for the 49ers in 2019. He led the team to the Super Bowl that season, but they came up short.

Garoppolo completed 68.3% of his passes for 3,810 yards and 20 touchdown against 12 picks in the 2021 season. He led the Niners to the playoffs, but they lost to the Rams.

If Garoppolo is cut by the 49ers, the Carolina and Seattle teams could be interested in signing him.

With Garoppolo likely to leave San Francisco, the third overall pick in the 2021 draft is set to take the reins. The North Dakota State product played in six games and made two starts. He completed 57.7% of his passes for 603 yards and five touchdown against two turnovers and also ran for 168 yards and a score.

Lance could end up being a better fit in the offense.
