The city of Boulder, Colorado. A fast- moving Colorado wildfire in rolling hills south of the college town of Boulder prompted authorities to issue an order to evacuate 19,000 people.

The Boulder Office of Emergency Management said the fire had grown to 123 acres by late afternoon. Thousands of homes were ordered to be evacuated.

The National Center for Atmospheric Research and the Table Mesa neighborhood were affected by the fire. The fire was called the NCAR fire.

There was a fire last year that destroyed 1,000 homes in unincorporated Boulder County and suburban Superior and Louisville.

In an email, town officials said there were no immediate concerns for the community.

The sheriff's office said that the fire was moving towards Eldorado Springs.

People who are hiking or climbing in the area have been ordered to leave. The south campus of the University of Colorado Boulder was being evacuated and police were blocking off roads near the fire.

The fire started in the kitchen. Marya said Saturday. Boulder police said that an emergency operations center was activated. Emergency alert were sent to cellphones within a quarter mile of the research center.

The police said that there was a message to be sent to the area due to the fire.

There was no information on the cause of the fire.

The temperature was 73 degrees and the wind was 25 mph (40 kph). The winds were dying down.
