The seizure of the two jet aircraft belonging to Eugene Shvidler, a Russian billionaire, was done in order to put pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.
The Treasury Secretary said Saturday that the two planes would be kept out of the air for three weeks. The aircraft was described by the Times of London as a $45 million Bombardier Global 6500 and a $13 million Cessna Latitude Citation.
Shapps said that Putin's friends who made millions out of his regime will not enjoy luxuries.
The U.K. froze Shvidler's U.K. assets last week as it announced a new round of sanctions on Russian companies and wealthy individuals. The U.K. said that Shvidler had profited from his support for the Putin regime and that he had links to those who supported the war in Ukraine.
