Police in New Hampshire said that the girlfriend of Montgomery's father was dead.

A police spokesman said that Small died on March 13 in Manchester. The cause of death is not suspicious.

The father of the little girl police have been searching for since late last year was the girlfriend of Small. Harmony was last seen in 2019.

Manchester police said the girl's disappearance is very concerning and that it is being thoroughly investigated.

Small spoke to police about Harmony in December, but he wasn't connected to the disappearance. Small and Adam Montgomery were found sleeping in their car.

Small told investigators that she had been in a relationship with Adam Montgomery for over a year and that he had not been in touch with his children. According to the affidavit, Small said that she didn't know where the girl could be. The Montgomerys were arrested earlier this year along with the stepmother. Adam Montgomery was charged with felony second-degree assault, interference with custody, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Adam Montgomery is accused of giving his niece a black eye after she failed to keep her little brother from crying, according to an affidavit.

Montgomery was charged with welfare fraud after she was accused of collecting more than 1,500 in food stamp benefits for a girl who was no longer living at their home.

Both pleaded not guilty.

According to investigators, Kayla Montgomery said that her husband told her that she was going to live with her mother. Crystal Sorey picked up the girl to live with her, according to Adam Montgomery, who had legal custody at the time.

Sorey has not been accused of anything. She said that she had been trying to find her daughter since April of last year.

She told NBC Boston that since she last spoke to her daughter nearly three years ago, she has been asking for answers.

I don't feel like she's gone. I don't feel like I lost her. A mother knows if her baby is here or not. I know she's here.
