  • One of the men who plotted to abduct the governor said they were ready to fight security at her vacation home.

  • He was a witness in the trial of four other men.

  • According to the AP, he said that his role in the plot was to use his gun.

The Associated Press reported that one of the men who pleaded guilty in the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. told jurors that they wanted to use a grenade launcher and machine gun to fight the governor.

In the trial against four other men charged in the kidnapping plot, Franks spoke as a witness.

According to the AP, Franks told jurors that Croft discussed attacking Whittaker's security detail.

Franks testified that he was discussing mounting a machine gun on top of the truck, and that he said he would use a grenade launcher.

Franks told jurors that he became part of the kidnapping scheme after meeting two members of the militia group the wolverine watchmen.

Franks said that he would be one of the people on the front line using his gun.

According to prosecutors, recorded conversations, texts, and testimony from participants show that the accused plotted to abduct the woman from her vacation home in northern Michigan.

Prosecutors said the plan was to blow up the bridge to delay the police response.

According to the AP, both Franks and Ty Garbin testified that the group had plans to abduct the governor and take her to Lake Michigan.

According to the AP, they testified that the group had a constitutional right to fight back and that Fox believed that the COVID-19 restrictions in Michigan were tyrannical.

Franks, Garbin, Fox, Croft, Harris, and Caserta were all arrested in October 2020.

Defense attorneys are trying to prove that the group had no real plot, but just violent musings about government officials who they believed were tampering with their personal freedoms during the COVID-19 epidemic.
